What is the difference between tubular battery and lead acid battery is the first question pops up in your mind when you plan to purchase the inverter battery online or offline. In fact, the same question is asked in another way like the difference between tubular battery and flat plate battery.
Try our inverter selector to choose right inverter by answering simple questions without reading any buying guide.
There so much confusion in the naming of inverter batteries lets clarify it first. All the recharge inverter batteries are the lead acid battery. Lead acid batteries contain two electrodes dipped in the electrolyte solution. The electrodes are Lead and Lead dioxide, hence the name lead acid battery. The sulfuric acid is used as the electrolyte. When these two electrodes dipped in sulfuric acid, causes the chemical reactions which indeed generates DC current. The best part is chemical reactions are reversible making it rechargeable.
All the models, types, manufacturer build the lead acid batteries in the same way. There are two types of lead acid batteries
Well, the simple reason changes in positive plate. The positive plate is critical and decays as time passes. In tubular battery positive plate is replaced with a tube made of cloth and coated well, hence the name tubular. Because of the tube, the decay process is slow and hence increases the lifespan of the battery. For the same reason, the maintenance and the number of distilled water toppings are also less. The below table summarises the differences structurally.
Feature | Flat plate battery | Tubular battery |
---|---|---|
Electrode type | Positive and negative plates | Positive tube and negative plate |
Battery Life | Low (~ 3 Yrs) | High (~ 5 Yrs) |
Efficiency | Has low efficiency, there is much wastage of current. | Has high efficiency, there is very less wastage of curren. Will have lesser electricity bills long term. |
